Six week Bible Studies(Nov. 3-Dec.)

Holy Vocabulary: Rescuing the Language of Faith by Michael Kellywritten for young adults and deals with the idea of keeping the true meaning of Christian vocabulary from becoming trite.
It examines words like saved, grace, sin, and repent, and because we’ve used them so often we’ve lost some of their actual meaning. Because Christianity has developed its own subculture over time, this subculture has its own music, customs, even buildings, not to mention a vocabulary of holy words that we, as members of the subculture, use to talk about Christianity and are synonymous with the Christian experience.
Michael explores the classic, if over-used, words of the church and dives deeply to rescue their meaning. Whether you’re new to church lingo or it’s your native tongue, you’ll find that these holy words have deep and significant meanings regarding faith.

Tea and Testimony

…and out it came!

by Lauren Dillard

Yesterday, I cleared out 200 emails, got a lot of typing done, went to PWOC, cleaned most of my house,  and was able to get a forgotten item to one of the kids.  I thought this was going to be a great day.  Then it happened.  I became very angry at one of the school staff and the angry words started to trip right off my tongue.  I’ve been a believer for many years and each day I feel like a lose my way again.  I’ve heard it so many times, “words are like toothpaste you know, you can’t put it back in after it’s squeezed out”.

In 1 Peter 2:12, it says, Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.”  That staff member was probably not a pagan, but, here in 1st Peter, even the pagans are to get the benefits of a person living under Grace.  As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we have been set aside to “declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” vs 9  Now, I must try to put things back in order.  That will be hard to do and I will have to swallow a lot of pride.  The mercy which has been shed upon me and all that I have been forgiven makes it worth it.

Maybe you have had a similar day.  Your house is clean, your chores are done, but you’ve neglected to reflect the goodness and forgiveness of God.  Make that an opportunity to look for today, tomorrow, and always so that you may cultivate a good name for your God.

May your day be blessed with steps ordered towards Him.

Don’t be afraid, Jesus walks with you.

There are days I need to remember that as well.

Sing a New Song Today

Oh to be able to sing a new song each day and not the same daily durge I wake up with.  My God is so wonderful and I take that for granted so much of the time.

The question each day is, “Will I adore Him?”  Will I turn to Him because He has all the answers, even if they are hard ones to hear.  Will I give him credit for the “good stuff” or will I say, “I made that happen?”

As you walk through your day, take the time to just think about what God has really done.  Maybe He’s repaired a relationship in your life, maybe He helped you make it financially through a hard time, maybe He just gave you joy in the midst of the “blah” season.  He is good!!

Psalm 100 says:

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.

Worship the LORD with gladness;  come before him with joyful songs.

Know that the LORD is God.  It is he who made us, and we are his;  we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
